Every business, organisation, family, and individual who volunteers or donates to Refuge Victoria plays a vital role in supporting women and children escaping family violence. Here’s how two organisations are making a real difference.
RizeUp
The story of the partnership between RizeUp and Refuge Victoria is one of two charities, aligned in philosophy, coming together to support families from refuge to brighter futures.
RizeUp Australia works with family violence organisations to enhance the service options they provide and is based on the philosophy that life beyond refuge hinges on empowering families to make decisions and build their own futures – and that agency includes having a home.
Over the last financial year, RizeUp worked with Refuge Victoria to set up 12 units and houses, donating the furniture and household goods.
Each home was created in consultation with the families moving into them, reflecting their lifestyle and special requirements, and was fitted-out by a team of dedicated RizeUp volunteers.
Each home set-up is valued at around $6,500, and these setups create not only a home but a foundation for a safer, more hopeful future.
Kind Hearts Collective
Special days, like Mother’s Day, can be tough for families in refuge. This year though, thanks to Kind Hearts Collective, mums and kids in refuge were treated to a very special Mother’s Day.
The Kind Hearts Collective Mother’s Day morning tea was held in a welcoming event space, overlooking parkland. There was a buffet, pampering station for the mums, kids’ activities and a floral bouquet station where kids chose flowers to gift their mums.
Everyone left with a gift bag and lasting memories of a special day.
Refuge Victoria is deeply thankful for the generosity and support shown by RizeUp, Kind Hearts Collective, and their volunteers.
