Material or Item Donations

We really appreciate your consideration of Refuge Victoria when looking to donate material items. Due to limited staffing and storage capacities, we will rarely accept material donations.

Empowering our clients is a very important aspect of our care, and for this reason, we endeavour to provide items that are new for our clients use within and beyond refuge — rather than passing on preloved or unwanted items.

What items we are in need of is also dependent on the clients we currently have in care. Generally, clients will stay with us for up to six weeks, so our needs are everchanging. As of March 2026, we are currently in need of the following items:

  • New linen for single and double beds (single and double bed sheet sets, quilt covers, quilts, pillows, pillowcases, bath towels and face washers).
  • Non-perishable food items.
  • Gift cards to purchase food, petrol or other necessities.

We will not accept the following items:

  • Furniture
  • Used/old mattresses
  • Pre-loved clothing

Donate to Others

For items we do not accept, consider donating to the following organisations who we work closely with to support our client’s practical needs. The generous support of these community partners allows Refuge Victoria to focus on the provision of crisis accommodation and specialised support.

If your preloved items are in good enough condition that you would happily give it to a loved one, the organisations listed here may be able to take them.

Based in Mitcham, the Generosity Collective accepts preloved clothing and linen in very good condition and new toiletries.

Based in Mitcham, EERN accepts household furniture, whitegoods and electrical appliances in good condition and working order.

Based in Derrimut, WERN may accept household furniture, whitegoods and electrical appliances in good condition and working order.

With drop off points in Clayton and Geelong, Our Village (formally St Kilda Mums) accepts donations for babies and children that are in excellent, clean condition. Our Village also has volunteers around Melbourne and Geelong who host drop off points at their homes/businesses.
